The Ride

It looked decent at first glance.
Fifty-six bucks. Not bad, right?

Then I looked closer.

Pickup was about 7–8 miles away…
and the destination?

Nogales.

Now if you’ve never been to Nogales, let me paint you a picture.
It’s not just “out of town.”
It’s commitment.

Fifty-five miles of commitment.

But I took it.

Because sometimes… your brain says,

“That’s not a great idea…”

And your finger hits accept anyway.

 The Reality

By the time I got there, I already knew.

This wasn’t a ride…
this was a journey.

No quick turnaround.
No “I’ll just grab another ride on the way back.”

Just me, the open road…
and a quiet voice in my head going:

“You’re gonna pay for this later.”

 The Drop-Off

And then… I got to her house.

Let’s just say…

If San Francisco had a cousin in Arizona,
it would be this street.

I’m sitting there at what felt like a 45-degree angle,
foot on the brake like my life depended on it.

The exit she lived off of?

The last exit in this FRIGGIN country.

I’m talking:

“Hola… y Bienvenido’s… welcome to Mexico…
miss this turn and you’re filing for dual citizenship.”

She opens the door like everything’s normal.

I said:

“Be careful when you get out… and don’t roll down the hill.”

She laughed.

I wasn’t joking.

Well…see you next time.
